Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Athena Genealogy does not sell your personal information.
We have never sold personal information. We use the Meta Pixel (Facebook) and, since September 2026, Meta's server-side Conversions API to measure the performance of our advertising - by default for most visitors, or after banner acceptance where opt-in consent is required. The server-side transmission sends your contact details to Meta as an irreversible hash (SHA-256), together with your country of residence, hashed the same way. No other form answer - nothing about your ancestry, your citizenship status or anything you typed in your own words - is ever transmitted. It happens only where the pixel would also run. A confirmed booking normally records two events: the booking ("Schedule") and, under the same daily identifier, the "Lead"; where the booking reaches us without a usable phone number in international format, only the booking is recorded. Under California law (CCPA/CPRA), sending these identifiers to Meta is classified as "sharing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising." Below is how you can opt out of this sharing.
How to Opt Out of Sharing With Meta
You can decline or revoke sharing with Meta at any time:
- Open "Cookie Settings" in the website footer (available to every visitor), choose "Decline," and reload the page. The Meta Pixel will not load and no data will be transmitted to Meta - neither from your browser nor from our server. Events already transmitted cannot be recalled; declining stops future ones.
- If you are visiting from the EU, UK, Switzerland or the EEA - and, since September 2026, from Quebec, New Jersey or Maryland - our cookie consent banner appears on your first visit and nothing is measured until you accept; clicking "Decline" there has the same effect. The banner also appears whenever we cannot tell which country you are in: where we do not know, we do not measure. If we know you are in the United States or Canada but not in which state or province, you are treated like the rest of that country. Visitors in the remaining regions do not see a banner - use "Cookie Settings" instead, which is available to every visitor.
- We transmit the Limited Data Use (LDU) signal to Meta with every event, from the browser and from our server alike. It instructs Meta to apply the restricted processing required by United States state privacy laws, and Meta determines from the event which state's rules apply.
- We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal: if your browser sends it, sharing is disabled automatically - and since September 2026 the signal also OVERRIDES an acceptance you gave earlier, because it is the later statement (CCPA, 11 CCR section 7025(c)(3)). That holds at the moment of the click as well: pressing "Accept" while the signal is on loads nothing and transmits nothing, from the browser or from our server, and the banner tells you so instead of simply closing. Your stored choice is not erased: it applies again if you switch the signal off.
Your Rights Under the CCPA/CPRA
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information. The primary opt-out mechanism for this site is the "Cookie Settings" dialog described above.
In addition, you retain the following rights:
- Right to Know - Request disclosure of what personal information we have collected about you
- Right to Delete - Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to Correct - Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Right to Non-Discrimination - We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights
